September Theme: People, Animals, Earth

We've had a great start to the school year with our "Yellow Star" (2nd grade) group!  They are excited to be the first to use a new classroom space and are taking their responsibility to keep it a positive, kind, and clean space very seriously!  Last week they packed back-to-school snack bags for kids in need and this week we talked about the positive effects of kindness, not only for the person who receives the kindness but also for the person that gives the kindness!

To see this in action, we assembled Kindness Kits and have challenged our students to complete 8 acts of kindness on their own over the next week. Their checklist encourages them to leave inspirational notes for people, give thank you m&m's to an adult who helps them (think bus driver, crossing guard, sports coach, etc), pick up trash at recess, and more. We can't wait to hear about how their challenge goes and how it makes them feel.

Questions to ask your students:

1) Have you done any of your acts of kindness yet?

2) Do you have any ideas for your "create your own" act of kindness?
